REGISTRATION & PAYMENT
Players will be registered on a first paid basis. However, teams that have been in league and have good standing in regards to payment and sportsmanship, may be given a few days lee way to submit payment over a new team that would like to enter the league. Urban Sports Club is an adult recreational sports league. We require our members to be (a minimum of) 20 years of age or older.
All players must pay the fee in full prior to your first game. USC may not schedule you to play until payment is received.
Team captains are responsible for collecting all money from their team, as opposed to having the players each submit individual payments to USC. Separate cheques may be provided, but all of the money submitted must equal the total team fee. If this is not done, the team will not receive the discounted team fee.
In some situations a group of friends may sign up as individuals, if the price is lower than that of a team. If signing up as individuals, USC reserves the right to add players to your team. For example, USC may place 8 players on a volleyball team. If you do not want additional players, than you must sign up as a team.
There is a charge of $25 for checks that bounce and re-payment must be provided by cash, PayPal or email money transfer.
TEAM CAPTAINS
Team captains are responsible for:
- Collecting and paying team fee in full to USC. It your responsibility to collect money from the team, this is not the job of USC. If you do not do this, the team will not receive the discounted team fee.
- Knowing USC policies and rules. They must go over these with team prior to first game. If any players are not following policies or rules, it is the responsibility of the captain to correct the situation.
- Bringing any necessary equipment which must include a first aid kit to the game.
- Ensuring that any new players sign the liability and sportsmanship waivers.
- Passing on any notices such as schedule changes to the team.
FIRST AID & SAFETY
First aid is the responsibility of the captain. They are responsible for bringing first aid supplies such as cold packs to the game. They should have a map of where the nearest hospital is. USC staff are strictly prohibited from administering any first aid treatment, all they are allowed to do is to provide players with first aid supplies.
Any player that begins to bleed during the game must leave the playing area if they are physically able to do so, and may not return to the game until the wound if fully covered up.
Sports are self-officiated and there will not always be USC staff at the venue. Players are responsible for ensuring the facility is safe and removing any potential hazards. If there is a permanent hazard this should be reported to USC.
WAVIERS
All players must sign the liability and sportsmanship waiver prior to playing in a USC league.
SPORTSMANSHIP
At no time will unsportsmanlike conduct, physical, verbal, disrespect, over-aggressive play, and/or arguing with USC staff be tolerated. A player or team that does not comply with fair sportsmanship standards may be suspended and/or expelled from the league without a refund. Any violent behavior such as initiating a fight or overly aggressive behavior during a sport will result in immediate ejection from the league without a warning or refund. More details are available under Generic Rules for All Sports. Teams are responsible for the behavior of players on their team. If someone is being unsportsmanlike, i.e. not following the rules or yelling at the other team, it is the responsibility of the team to call this.
RENTAL FACILITIES
Since the Club rents facilities, rental privileges may be revoked at anytime. Any player/team who causes USC to get a complaint will be removed from the league without a refund.
REFUNDS
In order to receive a full refund, cancellations must be submitted 5 business days prior to the start of the applicable season. After this time, no player or team will be eligible for a full or partial refund or credit. A refund is subject to a $25 administration fee for individuals and an a $75 administration fee for teams.
Teams or individuals suspended or expelled from the league are not eligible for a refund.
GAME ATTENDANCE
If you sign up as an individual, since you are joining a team sport, it is important that you can play on a regular basis. USC limits the number of players/team, particularly for volleyball, so players have more playing time, but this doesn't work if players regularly miss games. If you miss more than 3 games without notice or approval, USC reserves the right to cancel your spot and replace you with another player.
GAME CANCELLATIONS and SCHEDULE CHANGES
It is the responsibility of players to check the website, one day prior to their game, for any schedule changes.
Games may be cancelled for reasons beyond the control of USC, for example if the school needs the gym for a function. Sometimes USC receives no notice about cancellations. In the event of a cancellation USC will notify players as soon as possible by email or placing a message on our phone. We will try to reschedule the game which could include a different day of the week or an extension of the regular season.
WEATHER
WEATHER IN MILTON CAN BE SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT THAN OTHER AREAS CLOSE TO LAKE ONTARIO SUCH AS BURLINGTON & OAKVILLE. IF IT IS RAINING ELSEWHERE IT COULD STILL BE AND OFTEN IS DRY IN MILTON.
USC will do our best to notify players by email and by placing a message on our phone, if a decision has been made to cancel a sport. In the event of a cancellation USC will extend the season if possible. In the event of 2 or more cancellations per season in which USC obtains a refund for rentals, credit will be issued to players.
Indoor leagues are rarely cancelled. They will usually run if the school or facility is open. If schools are open, the games are on.
Soccer and Ultimate Frisbee will be played in the rain (unless the Town closes the fields or they are covered in a few inches of water), but in thunder AND lightning the game will be postponed. During the storm all players must leave the playing area and seek shelter in a car or building. Decisions to cancel a game will be made on the field and all players must wait at least 15 minutes since weather changes frequently; the decision will be made by the players if no convener is present. If the weather clears and the opposing team is not available it will be considered a forfeit. If the weather does not clear up and at least half of the game has been completed, the score will count as is.
Beach Volleyball will not be played in heavy downpour, thunder and lightning, or if the courts are unsuitable for playing due to large puddles. As weather changes frequently, decisions to cancel a game will typically be made at the court unless we know in advance about poor court conditions or heavy down pour. If the weather is clear and the opposing team is not available it will be considered a forfeit to be counted as -1 in the standings.
DIVISIONS OF PLAY:
USC reserves the right to move teams or individuals up or down divisions if their level of ability differs from the standard of that division. For example, we will move teams/individuals down a division if their skill level is substantially below that required for that division. Conversely, we will move teams/individuals up a division if their ability level is substantially greater than that of the other teams in that division.
ALCOHOL
No alcohol is permitted on the league premises (i.e. school, sport fields, or parking areas). Players who are intoxicated will be required to leave and may be expelled from the league without a warning or refund.
PRIZES
Prizes are awarded to the first place team.
